Basically the instrument you received is what they have filed with the court seeking to dismiss their foreclosure proceeding after the 10 month period has ended. It asks the court to dismiss the proceeding (the foreclosure) since nothing else has happened since it was filed (due to the short sale being approved and closed). Since the action is still pending before the court, they are reporting it correctly. Not until the action is terminated can they report differently. This is a good thing and once done in December will allow the reporting agency to report that the action is closed. They can still show that the amount owed is due and delinquent, but like you pointed out it will be less than the full amount of the original mortgage.
